ASCEND, Week 5. February 2, 2025. Psalm 133. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord commanded the blessing - life forevermore. 1. Unity is God’s plan. Romans 15:5-6 NLT May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Biblical unity. The realization of and commitment to shared realities that transcend diversity. Christ and the power of the Gospel bonds us together; creates a togetherness, joining diverse people, which fosters a community of love and belonging; security and sanctification; Holy Spirit power and influence. 1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.” Ephesians 4:4-6 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, Who is above all and through all and in you all. Genesis 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. 2. Biblical Unity is sacred. We’ve been consecrated to the Lord and His redemptive plans and purposes. (1 John 2:20, 2 Corinthians 1:21, 1 Peter 2:9) Unity creates an environment where God’s presence dwells; creates space for His Spirit to work. Community and relationships are profoundly affected when we start seeing one another as God’s anointed. Biblical unity. The realization of and commitment to shared realities that transcend diversity. Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 3. Unity is blessed by God. Ephesians 4:2-3 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. Acts 2:46–47 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.
