SERVE
Here at New Testament, we believe we are all called to be ministers of the Gospel.
(2 Corinthians 3:6; 1 Peter 2:9)
Our service, to God and others, is an overflow that we receive from God. We draw from Him and from that we are able to serve, bless and give to others. We recognize that Jesus came to give of Himself and to serve others; we are called to do the same. We are never more like Jesus than we give and serve. Whether it is our time, money or talents. And we count it a joy and privilege to do what He created us to do.

Volunteers do not serve alone. They are part of a serving team. These teams are designed to provide an optimum environment for people to connect and grow through relationships and responsibilities. We have many places to serve, both on and off campus.
âFor we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.â

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO
Our church is fueled by the Holy Spirit and is driven by volunteers. Every weekend it takes people to create friendly, organized environments where others can genuinely feel comfortable and welcomed. Our church, like many others, could not function well without volunteers. In fact, our desire is to be a volunteer-based church.
Before Jesus ascended into heaven He looked at His group of close followers and issued a final instruction we now call The Great Commission: âGo and make disciples.â The word âChristianâ had not been invented yet, but these men knew the meaning of the word disciple.
The call to make disciples is a call to reproduce. Itâs taking what has been entrusted to you and passing it on to someone else. As you have learned to follow, you teach someone else to follow.
Today, the Great Commission compels us to go and make disciples. Not just converts. Not just givers. Not just volunteers. Disciples! Making disciples is the core responsibility of every Christian. And collectively, it should be the priority of the church.
Itâs not about getting church work out of volunteers or raising money to meet the budget. Itâs about leading people from where they are to where God wants them to be. Itâs helping them listen to the voice of God and in return, responding in obedience.

âHe makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.â

VOLUNTEER EXPECTATIONS
1. Right Direction
We expect all our volunteers to be moving in the âright directionâ when it comes to their spiritual journey. Regardless of the level of your faith or years youâve been in church it is important that we are all committed to a deeper, more meaningful and maturing relationship with Jesus.
2. Right Commitment
Each volunteer ministry position comes with some basic expectations with respect to preparation and timeliness. We would ask that you prioritize your volunteer responsibilities and honor those you are serving with. If you commit to volunteer, donât flake! Of course there will occasionally be times when you canât make it, but when that happens plan ahead and let your ministry leader know.
3. Right Motive
We should not be serving out of obligation, guilt or because the Pastor said we should. The reason we serve is because we love Jesus. We choose to serve in order to strengthen our church and help others take their next step closer to Jesus.
4. Right Relationships
We are looking for volunteers that âplay well with othersâ and are committed to teamwork. The reality is that we are typically serving within the context of teams and it is vital that we display an attitude of patience, kindness and joy.

Some ministries require six months or more of attendance before an opportunity to serve is made available, allowing time for our pastoral and ministry leadership to build relationships and find the best âfit â for a personâs talents and desires.
