Mothers day 5/11/2025
• Series: Stand Alone Sermons
Sunday, May 11th. Mother’s Day. Luke 7:11-17 Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd. And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother. Then fear came upon all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen up among us”; and, “God has visited His people.” And this report about Him went throughout all Judea and all the surrounding region. The Sovereign One stepped into a mom’s darkest moment. God sees. God cares. God speaks. God restores. God moves. 1. God Sees. (:13) When the Lord saw her… 2. God Cares. (:13) …He had compassion on her… The care and compassion of our Lord isn’t distant or detached but personal. True compassion enters another person’s sorrow or pain. Compassion is “your pain in my heart.” Lamentations 3:22-23 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. Psalm 56:8 You number my wanderings; put my tears into Your bottle; are they not in Your book? 3. God Speaks. (:13-14) Do not weep. Young man, I say to you, arise! When His Word speaks over you, it brings life and healing to places you thought were broken, lost and finished. 4. God Restores. (:15) So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother. At the touch of Jesus, death and contamination run the other way! Flee! Restoration with Jesus ALWAYS means receiving MORE than what was originally lost. Joel 2:25 I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten. 5. God Moves in Power and Generosity. The heart of our Sovereign Lord delights to give. The goodness of God flows to you because He is generous; lovingly, abundantly and powerfully generous. Luke 7:16-17 Then fear came upon all, and they gloried God, saying “A great prophet has risen up among us;” and, “God has visited His people.” And this report about Him went throughout all Judea and all the surrounding region. God is to be feared, worshipped and known.
